NOTE: NOT NEEDED IF PURCHASING ANY OTHER ANNUAL RECREATIONAL PRIVILEGE. However, all hunters above 16 years must get one, especially for deer hunting. A landowner does not have to purchase a hunting license to hunt on their own property in Alabama, and this rule also applies to their immediate family, including their spouse, children, siblings, and parents.

Law enforcement officers employed in Alabama and certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOST), active duty U.S. Military personnel, and Alabama residents who are active members of the AL National Guard are also exempt from the hunter education requirement.
